Having geraniums covered in blooms for months—or even longer than expected—isn’t reserved for expert gardeners. With a few well-chosen steps and some often-overlooked natural tricks, these generous plants can offer an almost continuous floral display. Sun, watering, nutrients… sometimes a simple adjustment is all it takes to transform an ordinary balcony into a true oasis of color.
The Essential Basics for Healthy Geraniums
Before discussing tips and tricks, it’s important to review the basics. Geraniums need plenty of light. To flower well, they require at least six hours of direct sunlight per day. A bright location is the number one key to abundant blooms.
Watering should be regular but moderate. The potting mix should remain slightly moist, but never soggy. Excess water suffocates the roots and hinders flower production. Effective drainage at the bottom of the pot is therefore essential to prevent waterlogging.
