It was there, on the cold bathroom tiles, completely out of place: silent, strange, and vaguely unsettling.
My girlfriend and I stared at it for much longer than we should have, unable to explain why that small, shapeless mass seemed so unsettling. It looked like a moist, organic mass, the kind of thing that didn’t belong in a clean, modern bathroom. The longer we looked at it, the less sense it made.
We explored every possible explanation, each more disturbing than the last. A parasite? A strange mold? Something fallen from inside the walls? The more we speculated, the more the bathroom began to feel like a place where something had silently gone wrong.
Even as we whispered to each other, a part of us knew we were exaggerating, but the unease didn’t go away.
Two adults, completely taken aback by an unidentifiable stain on the floor. It was a strange reminder of how fragile our sense of normalcy can be when something unfamiliar appears in a place we think we know.
