These organisms strategically hide in mattresses, headboards, and baseboards, emerging only during hours of complete darkness to feed. The main threat, doctors say, is anaphylactic shock—an extreme allergic reaction that can occur in particularly susceptible individuals.
This condition is immediately life-threatening, with difficulty breathing and drops in blood pressure, requiring urgent intervention for 118 people. Besides the risk of allergies, the effects of these insects leave a series of itchy skin lesions on the body that can become infected, creating a complex clinical picture.
