Eight months pregnant, I was cleaning when I passed my mother-in-law. She cursed at me, slapped me in the face, and poured dirty water from the mop. I slipped, fell, my water broke—and I knew immediately that everything was about to change.

The pain in my lower abdomen was immediate and terrifying. I tried to stand up, but my body refused to obey. Then I felt a warmth and realized something was wrong – my water had broken.

At that moment, the front door opened. Javier had just returned home. He froze when he saw me on the floor, pale and shaking, and his mother standing beside me, unsure what to do.

Javier immediately ran to me, panic written all over his face. I could barely speak, but he understood that this wasn’t normal. He called 911 and stayed with me, holding my hand and trying to calm me down. Carmen remained silent, clearly shaken by what was happening.

At the hospital, the doctors confirmed that the labor would be premature. They explained that physical exhaustion, combined with prolonged emotional stress, can have serious consequences during pregnancy. I was admitted to the emergency room.

A few hours later, our son was born prematurely. He was tiny and fragile and was immediately taken to the neonatal ward. I only saw him for a moment, but that moment stayed with me forever.

During my recovery, Javier spoke privately with the doctors and began to understand how much I was suffering at home. For the first time, he truly saw what I was enduring in silence.

Our son spent several weeks under medical observation. I spent long hours sitting by his incubator, gently touching the glass with my hand. Javier was always by my side. This experience transformed him.
