Figure skating mourns: two promising young skaters lose their lives

The EisTeam Salzburg club, which Julia proudly represented, shared the news in a heartfelt speech: “It is with great sadness and regret that we bid farewell to Julia Gaiser, who passed away on the 11th.” The statement highlighted not only her athletic achievements but also her ability to inspire young people, as she dedicated part of her time to teaching figure skating.

The words of her coaches and the Italian Ice Sports Federation highlighted a striking aspect of her career: Julia began skating at the age of eight, considered late in her career, but through discipline and passion, she achieved extraordinary heights. For many, her story was proof that persistent effort can overcome initial barriers.

Just days after this devastating loss, the skating community suffered another devastating blow. Fifteen-year-old Matilda Ferrari was hit by a truck in Giustino, Trentino, on her way to school. Although emergency services and a rescue helicopter arrived quickly, they were unable to save her.
